LA-Sen: The Chamber Endorses Landrieu

On the heels of a pretty successful online fundraising drive to counter Mr. 28%'s $500,000 haul, Senator Mary Landrieu's campaign announces that the U.S. Chamber of Commerce has endorsed ... her over her Republican opponent, John N. Kennedy.

From the press release sent out by the Landrieu campaign:

"At no other time in our nation's history has it been more critical that Members of Congress provide leadership that protects and advances the interests of the business community, "Thomas Donohue, President and CEO of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce wrote in the Chamber's endorsement letter to Sen. Landrieu. "We believe that your election to the U.S. Senate will help produce sustained economic growth and promote America's competitiveness in world markets."

"I am honored to receive the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's endorsement," Sen. Landrieu said. "It affirms my fight for Louisiana jobs and a stronger economy. I look forward to working with Louisiana business people on a bipartisan basis to strengthen our state's business climate and to improve our educational system and infrastructure."

Seriously, I feel bad for the guy ...

First, he has a hard time raising cash. Then the Chair of the Louisiana GOP praises Senator Landrieu, while not mentioning Mr. Kennedy at all in an appearance on the Jeff Crouere show, then a real Republican announces they will challenge Mr. Kennedy in a primary from the right, and now the U.S. Chamber announces that it is backing his Democratic opponent.

Can this year get any worse for John N. Kennedy. Oh yeah ... a nice ol' butt kickin' at the polls in November will do the trick. Oh, wait ... he has a primary.

I really don't care for a Chamber(pot) endorsement. However, (0.00 / 0)
if it helps her to whip the lying turncoat till he runs home to his Mommy, so be it.

Democrats never agree on anything, that's why they're Democrats. If they agreed with each other, they would be Republicans.

I generally disagree with the National Chamber on the issues, I find that the local Chambers are great ... they are focused on pushing the business of their members.  I wonder how conservative the local Chambers really are, given that most of them are comprised of locally-owned stores.

Huh ... (0.00 / 0)
The local Chamber I dealt with in Oklahoma while in AmeriCorps was totally non-political.  They didn't get involved in political campaigns, they just pushed civic involvement by the citizens in regards to parades and festivals and Friday nights out during non-football season.

Same for the Chamber I dealt with in NY ... they didn't get involved in politics.

Roll the clock back a couple of months... (0.00 / 1)
The BR Chamber had stated that improving education (at the elementary and secondary levels: from elementary schools to trade schools to our universities) in the BR Metro would be the highest single priority for improving the economic chances of the area.

Sure, sounds simple, makes a lot of sense - and relatively uncontroversial to get behind.

But, why then, when the school board and its support employees started talking about collective bargaining, did the BR Chamber (backed by Lane Grigsby's cash) come out and fully oppose it, even offering the brief titled: 'Collective Bargaining: A Dangerous Threat to Public School Reform'.
