The "Nonsense On A Stick" Campaign hit a new low this week. John Neely Kennedy has been attacking Senator Landrieu for her vote on a bill dealing with oil shale last week. Well, it turns out that Mr. Kennedy is cribbing his oil shale platform from Wikipedia:

John Kennedy and Wikipedia on Oil Shale: A Comparison
John N. Kennedy:

"Oil shale is nothing but rock with a, an organic material in it called kerogen."

"Oil shale, a fine-grained sedimentary rock, contains significant amounts of kerogen..."

"And, uh, when a, when a chemical process is applied to the rock containing the kerogen, I don't wanna get too technical but the process is called, uh, pyrolysis, when that's applied to it, the kerogen turns into oil."

"The chemical process of pyrolysis can convert the kerogen in oil shale into synthetic crude oil..."

"Uh, this is, uh, uh, a well established source of energy, Estonia and China have well established oil shale industries."

"Estonia and China have well-established oil shale industries...

"Brazil, Germany, Israel, Russia all use it." ...and Brazil, Germany, Israel and Russia also utilize oil shale."

Cribbing (0.00 / 0)
Good catch, Ryan.  But, hey, at least he knows how to use the internet, unlike Mr. McCain.

who cares (0.00 / 0)
State Treasurer Kennedy using wikipedia to create a platform for energy. Someone needs to come up with an idea. Instead, U.S. Congress decided to take a vacation instead of helping the average American. Now that is the real crime.

Oil Shale ain't the answer ... (0.00 / 0)
It gives off CO2 not once, but twice ... oil shale would be the worst answer we can come up with.

Someone has come up with a solution.  It's called We Can Solve It.  Start working for change.  Lobby your legislators and representatives.  Sign onto the We Can Solve It campaign ...

Then again, knowing you, wheels, I'm not holding my breath on you signing up for WeCanSolveIt.

"I was against NAFTA and CAFTA, and I'll be against SHAFTA."

And more energy input (0.00 / 1)
And the reason why oil shale puts out more CO2 is because the process is so energy intensive to extract the oil that you get less energy out per unit invested. It's only an affordable process as long as oil prices remain high, but it's highly wasteful. Investing in conservation, solar, wind, efficient mass transit, and lighter carbon fiber hybrids makes much more sense.
