Candidate Raised to Date Spent Cash on Hand Debts
Bill Jefferson (D) $484,470.11 $865,842.47 $32,666.15 $256,513.66
Helena Moreno (D) $157,775.00 $201,294.95 $6,980.05 $50,500.00

I don't think you'll be seeing Jefferson on the air at all until the final days of this race, when he'll put up some generic ad just to remind folks he's running.  You will see signs and billboards all over town, saying Re-Elect Congressman Jefferson.

I have not been impressed at all with the Moreno campaign.  About the only smart thing she's done is focusing on rebuilding after Katrina, which is an important issue, but that's about it.  She has not highlighted the failures of anyone in the lack of rebuilding; and she's taken money from known Republicans, like W's Louisiana Finance Chair.  She's even raided Sinator Vitter's staff for staffers.  The last two are not actions of a Democrat, and the first one is not the action of someone who is ready to stand up and fight for this district.

Jefferson will win this thing.  It may be closer than his win over State Rep. Karen Carter-Peterson in 2006, but a win is a win.  Expect to be back at the polls by late spring in this district, after Jefferson's trial ends.

Wow, the Democratic Party screwed the pooch this time... (0.00 / 1)
Once again, too many damned people ran. It's not Edwards v. Duke, but sometimes I think some things should be decided in smoky rooms.

Enjoy your next term, Rep. Jefferson, you embarrassment to Louisiana you.

Why the bitterness? (0.00 / 0)
Jefferson is key to Landrieu keeping her senate seat.  With Morial gone, he has the only real GOTV effort in the city. . . and Landrieu's hoping to ride it. . .

Mary has been running a better statewide race (0.00 / 0)
With a pretty decent GOTV effort (the best she's ever run, for what it's worth). Now, would this alone put her over the top without Jefferson?

I'm inclined to believe it, but, we'll have to see how things shake out on November 4.

But, it would be nice if Jefferson didn't provide so much damned ammunition for the Right.

Look at 2002. . . (0.00 / 0)
And count which parishes she won.  Also, compare her vote totals with and without Orleans parish.

She has more statewide appeal but she still needs some major help out of Orleans.  Even more with the significant anti-Obama vote our state will be generating. . . .

You're absolutely right... (0.00 / 0)
Landrieu Total Terrell Total

Rest of state

532,874

569,762
Orleans 105,780 26,880
Total 638,654 596,642

I think the dynamic will be different this time... But, Landrieu really had very few parishes she actually won outright, and she lots of big ones by big margins (Jefferson, Lafayette, St. Tammany), which actually negated her tiny wins in Caddo and EBR.
