LA-Sen: Treasurer Kennedy Moving Toward Landrieu Challenge?

(Oh, boy ... is Kennedy dumb? I wonder ... - promoted by ryan)

Cross-posted today on my blog, Senate 2008 Guru:

Louisiana: According to Bob "Count Chocula" Novak, the Republicans may have their challenger to Senator Mary Landrieu:

John N. Kennedy, Louisiana's conservative Democratic state treasurer, is expected to change parties and run against Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu as a Republican at the urging of White House aide Karl Rove, despite harassment from the Democratic-controlled state legislature.

So Treasurer Kennedy shall forever be tagged as "Karl Rove's boy." Last November, Bush's disapproval in Louisiana was already over 50%. I wonder what it is now. I wonder what Karl Rove's is?! I hope Rove comes to Louisiana frequently and fundraises for Treasurer Kennedy - it should be as effective as Joe Lieberman fundraising for Susan Collins.

So what's Treasurer Kennedy's reputation?  What's your gut reaction on the challenge Kennedy could offer Landrieu?  Any possibility that there could be a Republican Senate primary battle between Treasurer Kennedy and either (or both) Secretary of State Jay Dardenne and/or Rep. Richard Baker?

Can you say Flip-Flop? Or how about Flush the John?  Anybody got a better line?  Post it!

He's not dumb. (0.00 / 0)
Louisiana is trending R quite heavily... probably moreso than any other state at the moment.  I think if Kennedy makes this move, Mary will be vulnerable.  Maybe not easy.. but vulnerable.

Mary's already vulnerable ... (0.00 / 0)
That's the only to way to explain her vote against the immigration bill.

"I was against NAFTA and CAFTA, and I'll be against SHAFTA."

Kennedy To Challenge Landrieu? (0.00 / 0)
Kennedy has an excellent reputation and would be a tough candidate if Landrieu has to run on a ticket with Hillary Clinton.  Many, many Louisiana folks are not going to vote for Hillary.  The influence of Rush Limbaugh's is very strong here and he doesn't like Hillary.

But Mary is a real street fighter.  She beat the gang last time even with the Catholic Church against her.  Mary's biggest advantage is that she is a good speaker.  Regarding Kennedy's speaking ability, an old saying is that, if you have insomnia, listen to a Kennedy speech.  You will be cured.

But Kennedy is a nice, honest guy and I wish he would consider running for governor as a Democrat this year.  He would have a shot if he could get into a runoff with Jindal.

A little off the subject:  I heard a radio report on Friday that former Governor Dave Treen is considering jumping into the Governor's race.  That would really help the Democrats who desperately need enough candidates in the race to force Jindal into a runoff.

Treen must be about 75 years old but 75 is not nearly as old as it used to be.  Dave is a grand old Republican but, if I recall correctly,  the Republicans turned their back on him a few elections ago.  He might want to show them!

Anyone hear of any other potential candidates for the Governor's race?  Jindal's support is large but very soft and the other announced candidates don't look too strong.  An outsider might take it all.  Remember Mike Foster!
