Don's come out with his third commercial of the campaign ... and taking quite the economic populist tone!

Cazayoux's new commercial (0.00 / 0)
He basically says nothing. I am for the middle class. Great. It is easy to be for the middle class if you are not the middle class. Don seem like a nice guy, but his campaign is very lacking in substance. If you go to fec.gov it appears that Don has received the majority of his campaign money from special interests, with the majority of these interests being lawyers. I don't know anyone that thinks we need more lawyers in this state.

Lawyers ... (0.00 / 0)
are the last line of defense against special interests.  Calling lawyers special interests in disingenuous.  By the way, who has Mrs. Casey received the majority of her money from?

Oh, snap!  She hasn't filed with the FEC at all.  Nice job of following the law, which requires filing with the FEC if you spend more than $5,000.  With all the advertising all over the internets, and the website, and the yard signs, I'm sure she's gone WAY over $5,000.  Where is her statement of candidacy to the FEC?

"I was against NAFTA and CAFTA, and I'll be against SHAFTA."

Lawyers & Pacs Oh MY! (0.00 / 0)
There certainly are good lawyers, but like many other groups, pro-life, pro-choice, big oil, and so on, special interests have taken over politics. The trial lawyers are very much a special interest group as are the "white shoe firms" that have formed pacs to give to candidates.  I had simply pointed out that it looks as though a very large share of Cazayoux's money has come from lawyers and special interests.

But since you brought up the subject, I went and looked at Cazayoux's campaign disclosure at the FEC site. For the period 2/18/08 - 3/16/08, Cazayoux received $303,150 in donations. 51% of this money came from lawyers (31%) and PACS (20%). If these groups aren't special interests then I don't know what is. There are many others on the list that are also special interest parties that have donated to his campaign. On a humorous note, I see that the  Barney Frank Campaign Committee made a donation of $2000 to Don. Didn't  Barney Frank get caught with a male prostitute ?

As for Ashley Casey, I do know that Casey has pledged to NOT take any PAC money in this campaign and that no other candidate is willing to take the same pledge.  Casey has further pledged that after leaving congress she will not become a lobbyist. Again, no other candidate in this race is willing to take the same pledge. As for Casey's reporting, the Independent candidates in the race do not have to report until April. Campaign expenditures over $5000 must be reported but from what I understand, Casey is very good at managing her contributors money in this race and has not wasted it on out of state consultants and staff with high salaries. I do hear that she has raised a substantial amount of money however.

It's not just the raising of money ... (0.00 / 0)
It's also the spending of money that triggers the law.  She best send a statement of candidacy to the FEC.

All I'm hearing from you is platitudes without evidence to back it up.  How do I know she hasn't taken money from PAC's or special interests?  She hasn't disclosed her donors.  Why hasn't she disclosed her donors?  What's she hiding?

I noticed that you didn't answer the question of why she has not listed the Democrats she has worked for on her website.  More stuff she wants to hide from the folks she wants to reach - Republicans???

"I was against NAFTA and CAFTA, and I'll be against SHAFTA."

independent candidate disclosure rules (0.00 / 0)
You obviously are not from the middle class or you would know how to stretch $5000.  Most of her stuff has come in the last 10 days or so I would bet the FEC is processing her paperwork as we speak

According to the federal register,

If Three Elections Are Held, Committees Involved in Only the Special General (05/03/08)
Must File:
April Quarterly......................... Waived
Pre-General ............................... Through 04/13/08     DUE 04/21/08
Post-General ............................. Through 05/23/08      DUE 06/02/08
July Quarterly..............................Through 06/30/08     DUE07/15/08

This is why she has not disclosed her donors - she has not had a reporting deadline yet.

As for Democrats she has worked for, you have already established that no one in New Orleans, including the president of the city council, counts.

Nice assumptions you make ... (0.00 / 0)
About my socio-economic status.  Just so you know, you are sooooo off-base.

She hasn't even filed a statement of candidacy.  That's the FIRST thing one does when running for Congress.  She's been running for over a month, and has yet to file that.

And just so you know, House candidates are required to file electronic documents, which means that the FEC doesn't have to "process" the paperwork anymore.  They just click and they're done.

"I was against NAFTA and CAFTA, and I'll be against SHAFTA."

They're "special interests" only if you don't like them . . . (0.00 / 1)
and I happen to like the groups that support Cazayoux.  I'll take Labor and lawyers over the out-of-state right-wing nutbags and Amway pyramids-schemers for Jenkins.

Make no mistake, this race will be between Jenkins and Cazayoux.  Casey will serve as a mild distaction, but in the end will shave a few points off of Woody from the country clubbers in Walnuts Hills & Bocage that hate Woody, but just can't bring themselves to vote for a Dem.

Cazayoux may be a bit too conservative for many Dems taste, but he's the only kind of Dem that has a shot in a district that gave Dubya 59%.

What about Jackson? (0.00 / 0)
Are you good democrats writing off MIchael Jackson? Cazayoux should be taking Jackson seriously and not looking forward to May.

[ Parent ]
Special Interests (0.00 / 0)
Special interests are bad whether they are right wing or left wing interests. The interests of the majority of the people of the 6th District have nothing in common with the groups that donate large sums of money to campaigns. It is just as bad for Woody to accept money from the right wing nuts as it is for Don to accept money from the left wing nuts.

This district does not lean either way and it is disingenuous for Cazayoux to talk about caring for the middle class when the majority of the money going to his campaign is from rich special interest groups and individuals. At least we know where Woody stands.

This district gave Bush 59%. (0.00 / 0)
And you claim this district does not lean either way?!

"I was against NAFTA and CAFTA, and I'll be against SHAFTA."

And... so who's funding Ashley Casey's campaign? (0.00 / 0)
You seem well-convinced that she'll prove quite the formidable foe in this contest... has she managed to harness:
1) a large base of donors
2) who aren't rich
3) who have no ideological or economic ties to any industry or interest group
4) and want somebody who's not Republican enough to call herself a Republican
5) but will caucus with them
6) and scores tens of thousands of votes?

Sorry, the only candidates who can get killer turnout without raising or spending much money are ones with:
1) Access to a GOTV machine (a la Cleo Fields)
2) A lot of name recognition

Casey's got neither, as far as I can tell.

[ Parent ]
And... so who's funding Ashley Casey's campaign? (0.00 / 1)
Not the special interest that own Don Cazayoux.

Casey does have good name recognition and is raising enough money to mount a serious challenge to either Woody and Cazayoux/Jackson.

She has pledged NOT to accept PAC money, unlike DON.

She will caucus with the republicans. Should she caucus with Nancy Pelosi?

Don should worry about the GOTV machine that you mentioned.

I guess he does not spend enough time in Baton Rouge to drive down Government Street, North Blvd, Florida Blvd. or any of the other streets that are lined in Michael Jackson signs. Does he live behind a gate too, like Woody and Laurinda?

As they say in Texas, (0.00 / 0)
Where's the beef, buras?  Casey strikes me as all hat and no cattle.  And, frankly, so do you.

"I was against NAFTA and CAFTA, and I'll be against SHAFTA."

[ Parent ]
Does more cattle equal more Bullshit? If so, Don and you are flush. (0.00 / 0)

[ Parent ]
Buras... or Venice... (0.00 / 0)
Or whatever you go by... I'm guessing Port Sulphur is next up the line...

Your candidate has as much cred as Tony Gentile, and whether or not you're on the payroll of the Casey campaign is irrelevant at this point.

You're not in the least interested in the Democratic party, nor are you interested in the success of any of its candidates. (If you were a Jackson or a Kopplin or a Decuir supporter, or if you supported Dems elsewhere in the state, your input would be welcome, and I'd be glad to engage in discourse with you). But, you appear to be little more than an astroturfer for the Casey campaign, intent on little more than harassing the people here.

As the kids on 4chan say: amirite?

[ Parent ]
Who do you think gives money to campaigns??? (0.00 / 0)
Poor people??  If someone can write a check to a politician, they must (or should) have some disposable income.

If you don't like Cazayoux, don't vote for him.

At least the "special interests" giving to Don care about poor people and the middle class.  Organized labor is the biggest  middle class interest group in America.

Special interests giving to Don care about "their" interests only (0.00 / 1)
For example: OURCONGRESSPAC donated $2000 to Don. Who gives to this PAC you ask?

Our Congress PAC is run by Rep. Mike Ross (D-AR) (0.00 / 0)
It's a leadership PAC.  It's mission to help Democrats win.  To date, it has donated money to the following Democratic candidates in 2008:

Barrow, John (D-GA)
Carney, Chris (D-PA)
Donnelly, Joe (D-IN)
Ellsworth, Brad (D-IN)
Giffords, Gabrielle (D-AZ)
Hill, Baron (D-IN)
Mahoney, Tim (D-FL)
Marshall, Jim (D-GA)
Shuler, Heath (D-NC)
Space, Zachary T (D-OH)

If corporate folks want to donate to Mike Ross' PAC, then I'm okay with that.  If Ross wants to curry favor with fellow Democrats, I'm ok with that too, especially since every single person on that list WON their election last time around.

"I was against NAFTA and CAFTA, and I'll be against SHAFTA."

Leadership PACS are what is wrong with congress and Cazayoux says that... (0.00 / 0)
he wants to fix congress ? To quote from opensecrets.gov, leadership PACS:

"What's a leadership PAC, you ask? It's a fundraising committee formed by a politician to help fund other candidates' campaigns. By making donations to members of their party, ambitious lawmakers can gain clout among their colleagues and boost their bids for leadership posts or committee chairmanships. Politicians also use leadership PACs to lay the groundwork for their own campaigns for higher office. And some use their PACs to hire additional staff-sometimes even their family members-and to travel around the country or eat in some of Washington's finest restaurants. The limits on how a politician can spend leadership PAC money are not especially strict."

While Cazayoux touts his strict belief in ethics reform at home, he does not practice what he preaches while running for higher office.

I said lawyers and labor care about the poor and middle class. (0.00 / 0)
I don't know anything about those people you listed.  If you say they're bad people, I'll take your word for it, but your logic is tragically flawed.  When someone gives to a campaign, they sign on to the candidate's agenda, not the other way around.  Cazayoux has raised almost $600K.  That's almost more than Jenkins, Calongne and Jackson put together.  Why?  Because people smell a winner.

When someone donates to a campaign they are hoping to gain favor with that (0.00 / 0)
candidate. Are you delusional ? Do you think the members of PAC even know what Cazayoux or Jenkins stand for? All they know is that the particular candidate took their money and one day they are going to come calling to collect on the debt.

[ Parent ]
I guess that goes for Casey's phantom contributors too? (0.00 / 0)
