(This is a good group. They help vets get the care they need by helping them deal with the bureaucratic inanities of the VA. Lord knows it's high time that the VA funding is automatic, rather than a line item that gets fought over year after year by the politicians in Washington. - promoted by ryan)
Around the United States (including here in Louisiana, the home of Fort Poole) we see that the military is overwhelmed as it tries to assist servicemembers.
Here at Veterans For America, where I am proud to be Director of Policy, we are determined to do something to help the men and women who have served us. Part of our efforts include our easy-to-use registry that will help us get you the help you need (or help for someone you know).
If you or someone you know needs help, we will work to make sure that you get it -- it's as simple as that. We will answer every single request we get. Sometimes it can be just knowing how to fight through the bureaucracy and get the mental health appointment you need or it might be how to get your family counseling.
Please let us help you or someone you know get the help you need and deserve.
According to the Times Picayune, a long awaited business plan for a new LSU/Tulane Teaching Hospital in New Orleans was released yesterday. The plan calls for a 484 bed hospital at a cost of $1.2 billion to be built in New Orleans to replace Charity Hospital. This is a part of a proposal from last summer, in which the VA and new LSU/Tulane Teaching Hospital would comprise a new facility in New Orleans.
Senator David Vitter (R-La), that paragon of compassionate conservatism, stated that "Never in my wildest fears would I have predicted this -- no commitment to redesign yet and a proposed very big charity that costs 12 times more than any previous estimate. Unbelievable."
However, there were two previous estimates, one by LSU officials in the summer of 2006 that cited a cost of $650 million for a 350 bed hospital, as well as a preliminary business plan released in December 2006 that called for a 427 bed hospital with a price tag of $950 million.
